About the Event
The Black History Month Nature Walk is a guided winter walk through the Humber River Valley that blends oral storytelling, history, and shared reflection.
Participants will learn about the life of Daddy John Hall, a Jamaican Mohawk man born free around 1783 near Amherstburg, Ontario, to an escaped-slave mother and an Ojibwe father. His life story spans survival through war, slavery, and captivity, and his eventual settlement along the Humber River, where he lived in deep relationship with the land.
The walk is led by hike leaders Shyrai and Tramar, with guest storyteller Dr. Jacqueline L. Scott, who will share an in-depth account of John Hall’s life and legacy while participants move through the landscape connected to his story.
