For years, we’ve heard the same thing: Black Canadian creators are hard to find.
We knew that wasn’t because the talent wasn’t here. The problem was visibility.
So we created a place where Black Canadian creators can be found, whether you’re a brand looking for talent, a journalist looking for a source, an organization looking for speakers, or another creator looking to collaborate.
And if you’re a Black Canadian creator yourself? This is a place for your work to be seen.
Why We Created the BCC Directory
Back in 2015, while building our own platforms, we kept noticing the same problem. Search for Black creators, influencers, podcasters or bloggers, and most of the results pointed to talent in the United States.
But where were the Black Canadian creators?
We knew they were here.
The challenge was finding them.
The Black Canadian Creator Directory was created to help change that by making Black Canadian talent easier to find, follow, hire, collaborate with and support.
That work also helped build the Black Canadian Creators Hub on Facebook and the Black Canadian Creators Podcast, creating more ways for Black Canadian creators to connect and find community.
Our Story Started in 2010
The roots of this work actually go back even further.
In 2010, when podcasting was still very much a niche medium, we launched ChoNilla, one of Canada’s early Black-led podcasts.
We talked about culture, race, relationships and what it meant to experience all of that from a Canadian perspective.
But something kept bothering me.
I was finding incredible Black podcasters and online creators, especially in the United States. I was building relationships and finding community.
Yet I kept wondering:

Black U.S. podcasters like The Black Guy Who Tips and Where’s My 40 Acres showed me what online community between Black creators could look like.
I wanted to help build more of that connection here in Canada.
Why Black Canadian Creator Visibility Still Matters
The conversation around representation changed dramatically after the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
Brands, media companies and organizations started publicly talking about diversity and looking for Black voices.
But we kept hearing something that didn’t sit right:
“We can’t find Black Canadian creators.”
The creators existed.
The infrastructure to discover them didn’t.
That’s an important difference.
Black Canadian creators have been building audiences, telling stories, creating businesses, shaping culture and developing communities for years.
The directory helps close that discovery gap.
It gives brands, media, agencies, event organizers, collaborators and audiences a starting point for finding Black Canadian talent.
And it gives creators another way to say:
