Two Black media giants are joining forces. ESSENCE Ventures has taken a minority stake in REVOLT’s parent company, bringing together audiences across ESSENCE, REVOLT, Refinery29, AFROPUNK, Beautycon and several creator-focused platforms. The goal? More collective power to compete for advertising dollars, grow distribution and strengthen Black-owned media.For Black content creators, this is worth watching. Our audiences and culture have never been “niche,” but individually, creators and smaller Black media companies don’t always have the leverage to prove that to advertisers. Partnerships like this show what can happen when Black-owned platforms connect their audiences, resources and influence. And it raises a question for us here in Canada: 🇨🇦 What could we build if Black Canadian creators and media worked together at that scale?
