  • Creator Directory submissions: If you submit your profile to the Black Canadian Creator Directory, we collect your name, social media handles, website, and any other information you choose to include.
  • Contact and inquiry forms: Your name, email address, and the content of your message when you reach out through our contact form.
  • Brand and partnership inquiries: Business name, contact name, email, and details you share when submitting a collaboration or sponsorship inquiry.
  • Comments: If you leave a comment on the site, we collect your name, email address, website (optional), and the content of your comment, along with your IP address and browser information for spam detection purposes.
  • Purchases or payments: If you purchase a product, course, or workshop through BCC, payment processing is handled by a third-party provider (e.g., Buy Me a Coffee, Stripe). We do not store your payment details.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Analytics data: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Search Console to understand how visitors use our site. This includes pages visited, time on site, general location (city/country level), device type, and referral source. This data is anonymized and aggregated.
  • Social and scheduling analytics: We use Metricool to track social media performance. This may include engagement data tied to content we publish.
  • Cookies: Our site uses cookies to function properly. See the Cookies section below for details.
  • IP address and browser data: Automatically collected for spam prevention and basic site security.

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Third-party tools we use to operate the site (e.g., WordPress.com/Automattic, Google Analytics, Metricool, Buy Me a Coffee, your email platform). These providers only process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies.

  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of BCC, our community, or others.
  • Spam detection: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (e.g., Akismet).

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Some pages on our site include embedded content — such as videos, social media posts, or iframes from platforms like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited those platforms directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interactions, especially if you are logged in to those platforms.


Social Media Integrations

We maintain active profiles on Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube. If you interact with our social content or share our posts, those platforms collect and process data according to their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party platform data practices.


How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Newsletter subscribers: Until you unsubscribe, after which we remove your data from active lists within 30 days.
  • Creator Directory listings: Until you request removal.
  • Comments: Retained indefinitely to support moderation and spam prevention, unless you request deletion.
  • Contact form inquiries: Retained for up to 2 years for record-keeping, then deleted.
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized — no defined retention limit.
  • WordPress user accounts: Retained as long as your account is active. Inactive accounts may be reviewed periodically.

Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Withdraw consent to certain uses of your data (e.g., unsubscribe from our email list)
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca if you believe your privacy rights have been violated

Quebec residents have additional rights under Law 25, including the right to data portability and the right to be informed of any significant privacy incident.
