Ink to Algorithm: Black Canadian Books, Media & Creators
Calling Black Canadian content creators, book media, photographers, videographers and literary storytellers.
Ink to Algorithm is a creator- and media-focused literary event bringing Black Canadian YA authors together with the people who can help their stories reach new audiences.
Taking place Friday, September 18 at the Toronto Public Library’s Fairview branch, the afternoon is specifically designed for BookTok creators, Bookstagrammers, book bloggers, literary journalists, Black Canadian influencers, youth voices, photographers, videographers and digital content creators.
This isn’t just an event to attend. You’re invited to cover it.
Meet authors, conduct interviews, photograph books and creators, capture short-form video, livestream your experience and create original content centred on Black Canadian literature and youth voices.
Expect:
- Opportunities to interview Black Canadian YA authors
- Short-form video and social content opportunities
- Book photography
- Live readings
- Dedicated media spaces
- Creator-friendly opportunities throughout the afternoon
- Connections with fellow creators, readers and literary media
- Contemporary teen and YA storytelling
- Conversations around cultural storytelling and youth readership
You should know:
If you’ve been looking for something to cover, photograph, interview or turn into original content, pay attention to this one.
Ink to Algorithm is intentionally creating space for traditional media and digital-first creators.
That means you don’t necessarily need to arrive representing a newspaper or established literary publication. BookTok, Bookstagram, blogs, podcasts, social video, photography and independent digital media are explicitly part of the invitation.
For emerging creators especially, this could also be a practical opportunity to build your portfolio while helping more people discover Black Canadian authors and stories.
Capacity is limited and registration is required.
Who should attend
The organizers specifically welcome:
Book bloggers, Bookstagrammers, BookTok creators, book media, literary journalists, Black Canadian influencers, youth voices, photographers, videographers and digital content creators.
