Finding a Black Canadian creator shouldn’t feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Whether you’re a podcaster, blogger, YouTuber, influencer, author, or artist, you’re not alone. Even if you are a Black Canadian creating abroad, you deserve to be seen.

That’s why we created The Black Canadian Creator Directory. This isn’t just a list—it’s a movement. A space to connect, uplift, and celebrate Black Canadian creative excellence.

Why We Built This

In 2015, while building our platforms, we noticed a problem: Black Canadian creators weren’t easily discoverable. Most searches led to U.S.-based talent. Our solution? Build a centralized hub that highlights and empowers Black Canadian voices.

That idea sparked the Black Canadian Creators Hub via Facebook Group. It also led to the BCC Podcast. This is a space where creators connect, collaborate, and amplify each other.

My Roots Go Back to 2010

Back when podcasting was still niche, we launched ‘ChoNilla’, one of Canada’s first Black-led podcasts. As we explored culture, race, and relationships, we realized something important: Black Canadian voices were missing from the scene.

Supported by Black U.S. podcasters like ‘The Black Guy Who Tips’ and ‘Where’s My 40 Acres’, we found community and clarity. But we knew we needed to bring that same energy to Canada.

Why Visibility Still Matters

The murder of George Floyd ignited global conversations. In Canada, it also exposed the lack of representation in our own creative industries. Despite our talent and cultural contributions, Black Canadian creators were still being overlooked. No more. This directory says: We are here. We are talented. And we’re not waiting for permission to be seen.

But why stop there? Inspired by this camaraderie, I knew I had to bring that same energy home to Canada. Casey Palmer and Kaya Marriott supported the vision as it took shape. This vision was a directory to give Black Canadian content creators the visibility they deserve.
