From selfie lights to teleprompters: gear that makes your content pop (without busting your budget)

By Sherley Joseph

I was just reading the Mashable article “Here’s the tech content creators are using at VidCon 2025” and thought, “Okay Sherley, time to pass these gold nuggets on to my fellow Black Canadian creators.” If you haven’t been following VidCon—where digital culture takes centre stage—it’s THE gathering for creators, platform innovators, and fans to celebrate the future of online content. Founded by John & Hank Green and now part of FAN EXPO, VidCon wrapped June 21st with more than a million fans in North America. Inspired by that Mashable list, I’ve distilled the Top 7 must-have gadgets and I added 3 of my favourites plus a Prime Day price-check hacks so you shop smart:

Prime Day Off to a Slow Start—Buyer Beware!

According to LinkedIn News’ Kara Reinhardt, Prime Day 2025 sales fell nearly 14% in the first four hours, even with four days of deals. Meanwhile, Adobe predicts $23.8 billion spent July 8–11. But here’s the kicker:

Prime Day deals may not be as good as you think they are.
Retailers often hike prices just before the sale, then “discount” back to that inflated rate—tricky, right?

Prime Day Price-Check Hacks

  1. Install Keepa or CamelCamelCamel browser extensions to view the true price history.
  2. Set alerts for your dream gear’s real low.
  3. Share the savings—tag a creator friend and compare deals.

Which gadget are you eyeing next? And what Prime Day hack will you use to snag it? Drop your faves (or wishlist steals) in the comments!

Keep on creatin’,
