Dance Revolt Spring 2026 is happening Friday\, May 15\, 2026\, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at York University’s Second Student Centre (2nd floor\, 15 Library Lane\, Toronto) \n\n\n\nMakes This Year Special\n\n\n\nThis spring edition centers Jamaica under the powerful theme “Out of Many\, One People.” But it’s more than just dance: this year’s event responds directly to Hurricane Melissa relief efforts\, connecting cultural celebration with real community support. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll Experience\n\n\n\nDance Workshops: Learn Jamaican and Afro-diasporic dance forms through interactive sessions that blend technique with cultural storytelling. \n\n\n\nCultural Education: Dive deep into the historical and social roots of Jamaican dance and music through guided dialogue sessions. \n\n\n\nLive Tribute: A special tribute honoring Jamaican cultural pioneers\, especially Luther C. Brown and his landmark reggae radio program “The Caribbean Crucible” on CHRY 105.5 FM at York University. \n\n\n\nCommunity Impact: Participate in an on-site donation drive supporting the Jamaica Canadian Association (JCA) with two collection barrels: one for clothing essentials (socks\, underwear\, undershirts) and another for canned foods and dry goods. \n\n\n\nLimited-Edition Shirts & Giving Back\n\n\n\nMELANIN is releasing exclusive Jamaica shirts featuring “Out of Many\, One People.” Available during registration\, $5 from each shirt goes directly to JCA community initiatives. Through a blend of trauma-informed\, culturally grounded\, and evidence-informed practices\, participants are guided toward greater self-awareness\, emotional regulation\, and a renewed sense of joy and safety in community.​ \n\n\n\nAcross four themed sessions\, the program weaves together gentle movement\, mindfulness\, storytelling\, expressive arts\, and community sharing to help participants reconnect with themselves\, nurture their nervous systems\, and build sustainable resilience.
